I took a stool softener a few days ago because I have a fissure. After taking it I got horrible nausea for about an hour, and three days later, I haven’t gone to the bathroom once! I’m wondering if the stool softener made me constipated – can that happen if you don’t take enough liquids with it?

Also, what liquids should you take with it? Is water the only option?

My wife is 1 month along and she is wondering if you can use a stool softener while being pregnant?

If someone is taking 2 mg of Hytrin and also Azor 40mg, and take stool softener with 100 mg of docusate sodium every night, could that be raising the blood pressure? If so, why?

I ate a ton of food and i feel so gross and discusting, the closest thing i have to any form of laxative is stool softener..will that work like a laxative at all??? what can i use as a laxative, any natural or homemade things that would work, other than prune juice and things like that that i dont own haha

Due to menstruation, I am really really constipated. I have low blood pressure because of menstruation and at times feel dizzy. My wife just had our first baby vaginally, and she was given stitches. The stitches make it icredibly painful to use the restroom. She was also given a prescription for a stool softener but it’s still too painful to go. Is there anything she can do (or anything she can take) to make this process more comfortable?

Ever since I was born, I’ve always had a chronic constipation problem. I contribute lots of fiber in my diet, lots of fruits and vegetables, grains, whole wheat breads and cereals, I take a mild laxative, and stool softener each morning to help. I also
chew fiber chews as well. I can sometimes go 14 days without a bowel movement, and it’s a very hard, dry stool which is usually quite painful to pass, what can I do that I haven’t already been doing to relieve these symptoms?

i’m 12 weeks pregnant and my doc prescribed citracal prenatal w/ stool softener since i had said high iron vits make me constipated. is taking this chemical for 7 mo straight okay?

I started taking Rainbow Light, Just Once "Prenatal Vitamins." – Walgreens.
I’d like to know if there’s a better brand or kind out there.

Please note that this is coming from someone who used to abuse laxatives about 15 years ago. When I think of anything that relates to laxatives I have horrid memories of laying on the bathroom floor in agony.

I think I need to take a stool softener. What will happen and how long will the effects last?

My body is not acting right and I am trying to get it right because I plan on going on a road trip wednesday. I also don’t want to take something that is going to make the road trip uncomfortable. During the laxative abuse days, I had to plan carefully because sometimes the effects lasted days. I recognize the difference in taking one stool softener and 30 laxatives, but I am worried about how my body will react since I have never taken one. Could my body react poorly to the stool softener and I end up with diareah?

I have tried all the things that usually help my body stay regular, nothing has worked. I know eventually I will end up with diareah and like I said, road trip!
Also, if this information is useful, I drink water all day long, don’t eat meat and eat lots of fruit and vegatables. The idea that nothing has worked is a little weird cuz I know my body really well. Tonight I attempted the ruffles potato chip approach, but that seems to only have made me naseous.

I have been so constipated since having given birth 2 weeks ago. I was instructed that I could take colace stool softener and I have been eating alot of fiber. For the last 24 hours I have been having diarrhea. I also bruised my tailbone during childbirth from having pushed for 4 1/2 hours! Has anyone else had diarrhea during postpartum? I have no cramping or any other symptoms.

I am trying to get pregnant but sometimes get irregular and have to use a stool softener. Its not harsh and says nothing about not being able to use it if pregnant on the label. Just wondering.
